Sriom Autism Support Group
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people perceive the world, how they think and behave, and how they communicate and interact with others.
- The Sriom Autism support was formed out of an immediate need to provide support to known parents with children who have ASD, focussing on providing a forum to discuss their journey with ASD.
- Free monthly sessions were held for families to share knowledge and experience to guide one another. We have also received expert advice from qualified support teachers and carers whenever required.
- The support group were discontinued in 2017 due to resourcing constraints and diminishing need for the forum for the immediate group of families involved. Sri Om is looking to re-launch the initiative at a scaled capacity soon. The new initiative will focus on:
- Assisting the Indian community with regards to acceptance of the diagnosis of their children.
- Helping increase awareness and education of ASD with families and how they can help to make things easier
- Helping families follow-through implement ASD management strategies
- Facilitating workshops to increase awareness and education of ASD
- Creating connections between families impacted by ASD to help create a community of trust and support Enrolment inquiries - hello@sriom.nz
