Sriom Yoga Classes for Children

- Originally kicked off as Self-realization classes, Self-realisation is where an individual becomes morally self-aware of themselves, their actions, their boundaries, and the impact of their actions in the community. The Sri Om Self-realisation classes ran from 2006 to 2017 with two batches of children.
- The primary goal of this initiative was to make the next generation better humans through awareness of their actions, words and encouraging compassion for all living beings. The classes were discontinued in 2017 due to resourcing constraints and relocation of the organisation South of Auckland.
- The Self-realization classes were then pivoted to focus more on health, leading to Yoga. Yoga is a long-lived practice that brings the mind and body together in synergy. Benefits of yoga include reducing stress, anxiety, improving memory, concentration, flexibility, and balance.
- Healthy living starts from childhood which is where the foundation to how kids become adults is set. Sriom Yoga Classes for Children is an initiative that has been running since August 2021 and encourages healthy ways of living among children.
- Factors such as childhood depression, behavioural disorders, substance abuse, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eating disorders and general mental wellbeing is a concern among children, specifically due to the impact of prolonged lockdowns from COVID-19. The classes specifically target children who are impacted by these factors to help them with their quality of life
